November
Japan still bears the scars left by Typhoon 23 this fall.
Great trees were toppled, roots and all, and shattered, scattering their fruit ripe for plucking.
I can understand why bears have left their mountain lairs to invade villages in search of food.
And now as we enter late Autumn in November,
Orange-colored snake gourd that survived the storm under the shelter of fallen leaves
has begun timidly to poke out its head,
And, belatedly, the leaves are beginning to turn.
Approaching the end of November, trees and plants, dyed by chilling winds,
have begun to take on fall colors.
What a delight it is to experience the change of seasons!
In majesty, the fall foliage vies with the beauty of the flowers.
Adding a few mountain chrysanthemums, I made a flower arrangement of them beside a fallen roof tile.
November is called "The month waiting for the snow."
The trees rustling in the wind are the harbinger.
