May
Torch azaleas the color of peach blossoms, saffron yellow Japanese roses, pure white kobus-magnolia and delicate pink wild cherry blossoms compete in mountain fields of soft green. This is the season when mountains rising dream-like out of the spring haze and covered with a patchwork array of color, pass into deeper shades of green under the beaming sun of early summer.
May has arrived in splendor with a profusion of flowers wafting on the fragrant breeze.
Beginning with a succession of holidays we call Golden Week, on the banks of water, brilliant purple shades of Japanese and rabbit-ear and German iris delight the eye.
Up in the mountains orchids coquettishly peek out to show their faces.
Into a simple arrangement in a Bizen-ware bowl, making use of the curved form of bracken stems, I place a water jug filled with orchids and put the arrangement in the shade of trees to let it breathe the refreshing air of early summer.
