Almost melting in this summer’s unrelenting heat wave, we have felt like we were suffocating.
The thick growth of deep green vegetation in the hills echoes with the piercing cries of cicadas, and vines have wrapped their tendrils around every tree and shrub.
On the banks of rivers and in camp sites near the water, people are seen enjoying fishing and the boisterous sounds of children playing can be heard.
Countless summer festivals, rows of night stalls with their hanging lanterns, night skies bursting with spectacular fireworks, people dressed in summer kimono—all contributes to create a festive mood.
In this way summer proceeds along the Japanese archipelago in a feverish, frenzied festive atmosphere.
This summer I strolled along the beach to take a look at the dazzling ocean.
The sand felt scorching hot.
With the boundless ocean as background, I used an old discarded octopus pot and abandoned fishing net to make a flower arrangement depicting the ocean side.
Waves gently lap about my feet as they sweep sand and seashells out to sea….
